Sparkly Candles

Hello!

Today's card was made for this week's challenge over at Color Throwdown.  I love those colors all mixed up and just had to play along!

Aren't they fun, tropical colors?

This was a fun, fairly simple card to make but I still managed to find a way to add some glitter to it.  The stamps are all from Inspired By Stamping - Washi Tape and Creative Tags.

The candles are the washi tape stamps, and the "flames" are the wing from the Stampin' Up Bird Builder punch.  It's the perfect shape for a candle flame, don't you think?  I colored them using Neocolors and water in orange and yellow then added some clear glitter to the orange parts so the color wouldn't be hidden.  They are popped up on dimensionals for a bit of dimension.

Look close and you can see that I embossed the edges of the orange and white layers with glittery embossing powder.  I didn't want a hard glitter effect, just a subtle hint of sparkle.  All that plain paper bothered me.

I also gave the little tag the same sparkly edge treatment.  It just looked a little bare.  Popped it up too.  I was in a popped up, sparkly mood today.

And that is today's card.  No ribbon, big floral arrangements, etc.  Today I wanted something a little simpler that was gender and age neutral yet still had a bit of sparkle.  (I happen to know guys appreciate a bit of sparkle on occasion too.  Just ask my husband - he finds glitter in his hair and on his clothes on a regular basis.)

Thanks so much for joining me and have a sparkly day!

Happy crafting!

Pretty Pansies

Hello!

Today's project was inspired by the challenge going on at Fussy and Fancy this fortnight which is to use the colors lemon and lavender as per the challenge's name.

This is not a card, it's an adorable little box that holds the wedding charm I bought for my stepdaughter when she got married 6 weeks ago and which I forgot to take to her in Colorado.  And then forgot to send to her.  Well it'll be a nice surprise, now won't it?

It's not an ordinary box with a removable lid, the lid is all one piece with the body and folds up to cover the center compartment.  It's a Samantha Walker design that I obtained from the Silhouette Store.  Thank goodness I was able to track down the directions on her blog as it's a bit tricky to assemble the first time.

It helps to use double-sided paper so it's as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside.

The little yellow "belly band" covers up the slight gap and holds the pieces together.

I used the pansy images from the Inspired By Stamping Summer Flowers set and fashioned the embellishment using a doily die cut, some pearls, and some ribbon.  I then attached the piece to the belly band so that the whole band could be slid off the box without destroying it.  The flowers were colored with Neocolors and cut out with my Silhouette, thanks to the FREE cut files Joanna includes with many of her stamp sets.

The tag is from the IBS Creative Tags set.

And that is my little project for today.  I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope my stepdaughter enjoys her slightly belated little wedding "happy."

Happy crafting!

IBS New Release - Happy Occasions

Hello!

Today is the first day that Inspired By Stamping's July Release stamp sets are being showcased by the designers!

My card showcases two stamp sets: Happy Occasions and Happy Occasions Sentiments (available July 10!).  I've also used Creative Tags, which you can find in the IBS store.

I made the background using water-based shimmer paints on watercolor paper.  Like those black lines?  That's what you do when you've completely finished your card front and you drop the lid to the waterproof black ink pad you used to stamp the sentiment right there in plain view where there won't be an embellishment to cover it up.  No screaming here (well, maybe a little), I just added more of them and liked the energy the lines imparted.  It did need a little somethin' somethin' anyway.

Here are the autumn leaves, also painted with several colors of shimmer paints, dampened, then crushed and flattened for a distressed look.  Hey, if people can do Christmas in turquoise and red, I can do Thanksgiving in spring tones, right?

I added a bit of sparkly burlap underneath for a little texture and a vintage button and jute twine on top along with various colors of ribbon.

Here's a peek at the inside with the sentiment.  The layers aren't adhered crookedly, I promise.  Note to self: take picture of inside BEFORE adhering enormous embellishment to front.

Thank you for joining me today, and stay tuned for more IBS goodness to come!  In the meantime, please pay a visit to the other designers who are showcasing these sets too!

Happy crafting!
