Guest Designer for IBSIC Challenge #49

Hello!

I am thrilled half to death this month because I've been asked to be the Guest Designer for the Inspired By Stamping Inspiration Challenge (IBSIC) blog for the month of March.  The WHOLE month!  Woohoo!!

I have always admired this blog ever since first discovering it - Joanna ALWAYS puts out quality work, and so do her very talented and creative Design Team.  The color challenges they come up with each week are not to be missed, so do yourself a favor and head on over to see the ALWAYS gorgeous and inspiring DT work and then join in the fun!  Don't forget to leave some love for the DT!

My card for Challenge #49 is inspired by this week's photo.

Aren't these colors positively luscious?  Kraft always brings vintage straight to mind, especially when pink is involved, so vintage is what I came up with.  It sort of just evolved on its own.

I absolutely LOVE Inspired By Stamping Products and used several here, including four stamp sets, their new dies, and their crochet ribbon (all detailed below in "Supplies").  I used a lot of techniques in this card so there will be several pictures to go along.

Strangely enough, none of my extensive supply of papers had the look I was going for, so I had to make my own.  The base layer was stamped after first stamping off so as to give fainter images.  Then I created my own dp for the rose layer by applying two colors of ink directly to paper, but I didn't love the look so sprayed it with my own blend of alcohol, Perfect Pearls and brown ink refill which gave it the perfect vintage look.  It's very subtle, and most of the brown inked section is covered up, but it's there.  The rose has been heat embossed with clear ep after first inking up with Versamark then selectively inking with pink and green inks over that.  (Versamark first, colored ink next, stamp, then emboss with the clear powder.  It's a great trick when you want to customize your embossed color but don't have a zillion emboss inks or powders on hand.)

I will preface the description of the border by saying that this card required customization of almost every element.  I colored everything myself because for some reason, none of my papers looked quite right, and though I have a lot of papers, this card called for special treatment.  The scallop border underneath is ivory.  On top of that is an identical die cut but this time of vellum which I airbrushed with a pink Copic.  On top of that is IBS Scallop Border Crochet Trim which I misted with my homemade vintage spray.

The only paper I left as is (other than the brown mats) was the sentiment layer, though I did ink the edges and colored in the roses with pink chalk.  That little pink layer behind is sticky back canvas which I distressed with two colors of ink then stamped with a generic script stamp.  It was a leftover piece and fit my needs perfectly!

Why was it left over?

Because I originally made the piece for this fun layered flower!  Thus, there was an odd-shaped piece left over which fit under the sentiment perfectly.

The bow was made with airbrushed seam binding and tied using my brand new homemade bow maker which I was inspired to make because of Joanna's bow tutorial (here).  I am now in bow heaven at long last.

The flourishes are painted with two shades of Creative Inspirations paints (Sage and Evergreen) for the light touch of green.  Some stitching and a few pearls round out this card which was a joy to make from start to finish.

Thank you so much for taking the time to join me today, and do head on over to IBSIC to play along - they'd love to see you!!

Happy crafting!

Hi, Shea! I have visited your blog 3 times now in less than an hour, trying to leave a comment. I keep getting interrupted! SIGH - such is life LOL Just wanted to congratulate you on your GDT position with IBSIC. It's a wonderful opportunity to share your inspiration with the rest of us. The soft colors in the Spring table setting look great on your card. It's a pretty collage with each element having its own part on the stage. LOVE how you have put everything together. I'm not able to assemble elements quite like this yet. Your card just flows with the softness and gardeny feel of the approaching season. Beautiful!
