Sunset in the City

Hello!

Today's card was made for the new challenge going on over at My Sheri Crafts, the theme of which is "Summer Solstice," and they are asking that we create a card/project with a summer evening in mind.  Well that worked just perfectly with a couple of new dies that I've had for a few months and been wanting to try, the Skyline Border dies by MFT.  There are two, the perforated (open windows) and the background solid.  I LOVE this effect, don't you?  I offset the yellow layer a bit to imitate the reflection from that enormous moon.  We'll get to the moon in a bit.

I used 5 inkpads on the background: one orange shade and 4 shades of blue.  The stars are SU's Dazzling Details.  (Of the three glitter glues I tried, this one sparkled the most.)  The sentiment is heat embossed in glittery gold using one of Inspired By Stamping's June releases, Big Notes in French IIThis link will work tomorrow (June 10) when the stamp set becomes available in the IBS store.

I made the moon using a technique called faux cloisonne.  Of course I had to do things with my own twist, and this was an experimental piece that I made a couple of weeks ago and which I thought "Aha, it looks like a moon."  And so it does.  The surface, which has several layers of UTEE on it is cracked a bit, and the gold ink is pigment.  I'll be doing a tutorial on this soon.

On the inside of the card I used two other IBS stamp sets: another of the new June releases Big Congrats (also available tomorrow) and Amazing Inspirations.  I had to have some metallic stars sprinkled about.

This card is a departure from my usual ribbon- and flower-adorned projects, but it didn't really call for such fussy measures in my opinion.   Next time.

Thank you for joining me, and I hope you head on over to My Sheri Crafts to play along!

Happy crafting!
