Happy Halloween!

Got a quick little second post today.  I made a treat bag for my DD to take with her on her way to work.  She had school and then has to close up where she works, so she won't get to join us for our traditional buffet and scary movie.

This was very simple and quick.  I used papers from the Teresa Collins Haunted Hallows 12x12 stack and edged them with the MS spider border punch, the black being glitter paper.  The web is Memory Box Creepy Web die, and the tags are from Sissix Scallop Tag #2, with the smaller tag painted and dry brushed with Ivory and Coal Creative Inspirations paints respectively.  Some orange dewdrops and gold metallic ribbon and voila, a last-minute treat bag for my sweety sweet DD.

Funny thing about the greeting.  I stamped it onto the possibly still-damp tag and accidentally touched it with my paintbrush and smeared one of the words,  I liked the effect so much I brushed the other words the same way so as to give them a slightly "hair raised" look.  A little glitter heart and another orange dewdrop finished things off.

Note: the tags are loose and supposed to look a little wonky.

Thanks so much for visiting me, and now it's time to get back to cooking for tonight.  Have a lovely evening, everyone, and Happy Halloween!

And of course, Happy Crafting too!!

Christmas Ribbons

Hello!

Today is Halloween and there is much to do to get ready for this evening.  I always cook Halloween foods for whomever is on hand, which tonight will be just me and my DH, who is Chief Candy Hander Outer to the kiddos.  After they have come and gone, we will watch a scary movie in keeping with tradition, starting around 9:00 p.m.  He has asked me to make my Spider Cheese Ball for his company Halloween lunch, then it'll be back home cooking for the rest of the day - finger foods, something sweet (because candy isn't dessert), and spiced cider for the movie.

Today's card is for a challenge over at Splitcoaststampers which was to make a card incorporating woven ribbon.

I didn't realize at first that it could mean a piece of ribbon woven through holes, be they from a punch, die cuts, whatever and thought it meant real woven ribbon, so that is what I set out to do.  And right off the bat, the simple card I thought I'd make turned into a labor of love which took the better part of the day.  Those are 1/8" ribbons, two together, woven onto sticky CS.  Well, all except for the gold, which is a single 1/4" width.  I framed it with SB Decorative Labels One and covered that with Art Institute gold glitter which sparkles like crazy.  I only wish the camera could capture just how much it shimmers.

The layout is this week's MOJO Monday sketch, with the middle square turned on the diagonal.

Paper used is SU Garden Green, Real Red, Very Vanilla DSP Stack and The Paper Studio's Old World Winter.  The middle layer was stamped with an unknown music stamp which I inked with Versamark and then Crumb Cake so that I could emboss it with clear ep.

The roses were made with SB Rose Creations die and brushed with a little Creative Inspirations paints, and the corner pieces were cut with SB Antique Frame and Accents die and embossed with SU Iridescent Ice embossing powder.

The tag was made with Sissix Scallop Tags 2 die, and there are two sets of leaves: one made with Dienamics Leafy Flourish die and the other punched with the Martha Stewart pine branch punch, both of which were also painted with a bit of CI paints.  The tag is stamped with Flourishes All the Glitters stamp, and two colors of ribbon are tied  on it.

A couple of rhinestones finish this card off.

One last thing - I always finish my cards inside, albeit simply, but this card demanded a little more, so here's a peek inside:

Thank you so much for visiting me, and here's wishing you a very happy, safe, and maybe a little spooooky Halloween!

Happy Crafting!

Tuesday Alchemy - Dark, Gothic &/or Spooky!

Hello and good morning!!

My card today is called Spooky Bird and I used a couple of techniques for the image background.

First I scribbled ink from three SU markers onto a large acrylic block in three equal swaths: Basic Black, Basic Grey and Nearly Navy.  I spritzed that with water and then stamped and "smooshed" (technical term) the ink onto glossy white CS.  When that was dry, I stamped the images in Versamark and embossed them with clear embossing powder.  For the stamps I used SU Papaya Collage, IO Branches of a Tree, and a Penny Black candle.  Then I sponged the edges and towards the center with SU Concord Crush and Memento Tuxedo Black and used a soft cloth to wipe away the ink from the embossed areas.  I guess we could call this technique the Acrylic Block/Emboss Resist/Sponged technique, or Block Resist.  I trimmed the panel to size and set it aside.

It's a fascinating technique as you can see the smooshed colors underneath the clear embossing powder.  Gives an almost marbled effect to the images, and you never get the same effect twice, which I like.

The card itself consists of layers of SU CS - Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie and Lucky Limeade, plus some papers from Teresa Collins Haunted Hallows 12x12 paper stack.  I used Lucky Limeade for the mat behind the image as well as the paper rosette and applied black ink using the DTP method for the worn, grungy look after first sanding the edges a little.  I ran the spider-printed layer (including mat) through the Big Shot with SU Vintage Wallpaper ef, then sanded the top to distress it a bit.

The embellishment is the paper rosette with a smidge of ribbon and a tag made from Shrinky Dinks, die cut with the Sissix Tags, Scallop Combo #2 and heated with the heat gun.  I painted it with Onyx and Ivory Creative Inspirations paint (multiple layers of each color) and stamped it with gold pigment paint.  I also dry brushed Onyx onto the rosette itself.  Some grey rhinestones finished the card for very little bling (but I had to have some).

Thank you for joining me, and be sure to get on over to Tuesday Alchemy so you can play along!

Happy Crafting!!
