Faux Washi Feather

Hello!

Today I'm featuring my very first tutorial for Inspired By Stamping's Woo Hoo Wednesday and am pleased to showcase my Faux Washi Feather technique!

You can check out the tutorial here, and I have to say I had such a good time making these feathers using the colors from IBSI Challenge #58.

The stamps used are Background Basics III (for the background behind the sentiment), Just Because, Fancy Labels II and Delicate Doilies, (both for the feather and for the card's background layer).  I also used a Miniature Rose and some Satin Ribbon from the IBS store as well as the Fancy Labels Dies 2.

Glittery wings add a touch of whimsy.

I used the emboss resist method with the largest of the doily stamps.

I hope you pop on over and enjoy the tutorial, then make some feathers of your own!

Happy crafting!

IBS New Release - Big Congrats and Summer Postcards

Hello!

Today is the first day that Inspired By Stamping's June Release stamp sets are showcased by the designers!  How exciting!

My card showcases the Big Congrats stamp set which contains the large-font word "Congratulations" along with 5 events to be congratulated, in this case my daughter's new job.  (Woohoo!  And it's a good one, too!)

I've also used two other IBS stamps sets including Delicate Doilies and last month's new release Background Basics III.  I used the French script on this set to stamp the base layer of the card.  I then dry brushed white acrylic paint and a bit of ivory shimmer paint over it with a fan brush to tone that vivid pink down just a bit.

Here is a different view of the doilies.  I stamped them using shimmer paints which I sponged on in different colors so they'd blend a bit.  Then I sponged distress ink over them and wiped the ink off of the doily areas.

These flowers started out white but I colored them using alcohol inks and rubbing alcohol.  The roses are from the IBS store...

...as is the silky soft seam binding.  It, too, started out white, but I sprayed with it some of my homemade sprays in pink and blue.

Thank you for joining me today, and stay tuned for more IBS goodness to come!  In the meantime, please pay a visit to the other designers who are showcasing this and the Summer Postcards stamp sets.

Big Congrats

Shea (me!)

Paris (or...I can dream, can't I?)

Hello!

Today's card is a "just because" kind of card that I've made using the ever delightful Creative Inspirations paints.  I love, love, LOVE them, and one of my favorite ways to use them is the marbled background technique, which you can find here.  It is my new favorite technique and I've already done it several times.

This time I've used Tutu Pink, Mellow Yellow and Pink Highlights, the last of which is interesting because it looks ivory until you turn it towards the light, then the shimmery pink shows up.

I had to photograph the card at a couple of different angles to try to capture the shimmery goodness.  See that slight pink?

Here's another closeup.  You can see more of the pink down there to the right.  I really wish I could have a video within a picture so I could move the card around and show you the shimmer.  It is a fascinating way to create an interesting background that can pretty much stand on its own.

I used some lovely product from the Inspired By Stamping shop, including the always versatile Paris stamp set, the new Background Basics III stamp set (behind the word "Paris"), the Fancy Labels Die, and some Colonial Rose Satin Ribbon.  Some dots of gold glitter glue at the bottom finish this card.

And that, dear friends, is today's card.  Thanks so much for joining me and I wish you a lovely, craft-filled day.

Happy crafting!

IBS New Release - Background Basics III, French Notes

Bonjour!

It's another day of sharing sneak peek projects with you with the new Inspired By Stamping May releases!  I have to say I had such fun creating with them!  We'll reveal the stamp sets themselves on May 10, the day of of the Full Reveal!

Today we are sharing projects created using the Background Basics III and Big Notes in French stamp sets.

After marbling the background paper, I stamped several rows of one of the background stamps to cover it.  I have a serious weakness for French script on backgrounds.  It just adds so much pizzazz in a quiet, elegant way.  Even when I stamped one of the sections upside down.

No, you can't tell.  No you can't.

I stamped and heat embossed the Eiffel Tower in gold from the IBS stamp set, "Paris."  Magnifique!  After that, I layered on some die cut flourishes...

...then applied the sentiment panel (cut using the IBS Fancy Labels Dies I) which I first sponged with a couple or three shades of ink and then heat embossed the edges with copper metallic embossing powder.  I also embossed the sentiment and decorations that way.

I used some blue seam binding for the messy bow and then painted an ivory IBS rose with alcohol and alcohol paints to customize it to match my card.  I made the tiny tassel out of gold cord.  Ooh la la!

That's it for today's card.  Make sure to check out each of the DT blogs, there is such lovely inspiration from all of the DT using the new sets:
